Funding Your Home Care with Direct2U

Understanding your funding options shouldn't be complicated. Our team will guide you through every step.

Care Should Be Accessible to Everyone

At Direct2U, we believe cost should never be a barrier to receiving the care you need. We work with a range of funding routes to ensure you or your loved one can access high-quality support.

Local Authority Funding

If you have eligible care needs, your local council may fund some or all of your care. A social worker or care manager will carry out an assessment of your needs and finances. If eligible, Direct2U can be instructed as your provider.

  • Request a needs assessment from your local council's adult social care team
  • A financial assessment (means test) will determine your contribution
  • If eligible, your care package will be arranged with your chosen provider — including Direct2U

How the Process Works

  1. 1

    Request an assessment

Contact your local council's adult social care team — no referral needed.

  2. 2

    Needs assessment

A social worker visits to assess your care and support needs.

  3. 3

    Financial assessment

A means test determines whether you contribute to costs.

  4. 4

    Choose your provider

If eligible, you choose Direct2U as your care provider.

NHS Continuing Healthcare

Adults with complex, primarily health-related needs may qualify for fully funded care through NHS CHC, at no cost to the individual. Direct2U works with CCG and ICB commissioners to deliver NHS-funded packages.

  • Adults with a 'primary health need' that is complex, unpredictable, or intensive may qualify
  • A multidisciplinary team carries out a CHC assessment — your GP or care manager can refer you
  • Fast-track CHC is available for those in the last stages of life, enabling rapid care to begin
Ask our team about CHC

NHS Continuing Healthcare is entirely free to the individual — it covers the full cost of care regardless of your personal finances.

Who typically qualifies?

  • People with advanced dementia or neurological conditions
  • Those requiring frequent skilled nursing interventions
  • Individuals with unpredictable, fluctuating care needs
  • People approaching end of life (fast-track CHC)

Direct Payments

If you receive a Local Authority care budget, you can take this as a Direct Payment and use it to arrange your own care — including choosing Direct2U as your provider. This gives you greater flexibility and control.

  • Direct payments can be used to employ a personal assistant or a registered care provider like Direct2U
  • You manage how your care budget is spent, with support from your local council

How do I find out if I qualify for Local Authority funding?

Contact your local council's adult social care team and ask for a needs assessment. It is free and you do not need a referral.

Q

Can I receive NHS Continuing Healthcare while living at home?

Yes. NHS CHC is not limited to care homes — it can fund care at home including domiciliary care and live-in care.

What if my needs change and my funding needs to increase?

Care plans and funding are reviewed regularly. If your needs increase, you can request a reassessment from your local authority or NHS commissioner.
