Dementia care at home is a specialist form of support designed for people living with dementia — including Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, and other related conditions. It is delivered in the person's own home by trained carers who understand the unique challenges and needs that dementia presents.
Unlike standard domiciliary care, specialist dementia care requires carers with specific training in dementia-aware communication, cognitive stimulation, behaviour management, and safe supervision. Consistency is paramount — familiar faces, familiar routines, and a familiar environment can make an enormous difference to the daily wellbeing and anxiety levels of someone living with dementia.
At Direct2U, we strongly believe that remaining at home — surrounded by memories, belongings, and the people you love — is enormously beneficial for people living with dementia. Our carers are selected not only for their professional qualifications, but for their patience, empathy, and ability to connect with the people they support.

Our specialist dementia care team is experienced in supporting people living with a range of dementia conditions at all stages of progression.
The most common form of dementia, affecting memory, language, and behaviour. Our carers provide consistent, patient support aligned with each stage of progression.
Often caused by strokes or reduced blood flow to the brain. We provide structured support, medication management, and close monitoring of health changes.
Characterised by fluctuating cognition, visual hallucinations, and motor symptoms. Our carers are trained in the specific communication and safety approaches this condition requires.
Affecting personality, behaviour, and language, this condition requires carers with strong skills in behaviour support, communication adaptation, and family guidance.
Where two or more types of dementia occur simultaneously, care must adapt accordingly. Our coordinators design flexible, holistic plans that address multiple needs.
For those recently diagnosed, we offer discreet, light-touch support that promotes independence whilst providing reassurance and safety for both the individual and their family.

We assign a small, consistent team of carers to each person we support. Familiar faces reduce anxiety, build trust, and allow carers to notice even the subtlest changes in behaviour or health.
Predictable routines provide stability and reduce confusion. We build routines around the individual's established habits and preferences — not around our convenience.
Our carers are trained in techniques that support calm, clear communication — including short sentences, positive language, non-verbal cues, and a patient, unhurried approach.
We incorporate meaningful activities into every care visit — reminiscence, music, reading, puzzles, and gentle movement — all shown to support cognitive health and emotional wellbeing.
We carry out home safety assessments and work with families to identify and mitigate risks — from fall prevention to medication safety — while always preserving dignity and autonomy.
We treat families as essential partners in care. We maintain open, honest communication, welcome family input into care planning, and offer guidance and emotional support.
Dementia is a progressive condition, and care needs evolve over time. Direct2U designs flexible care packages that adapt as the condition develops.
In the early stages of dementia, a person may still be largely independent but benefit from structured support, cognitive stimulation, and reassurance. Our carers provide light-touch, dignity-preserving assistance — helping with medication, meals, and safety whilst encouraging as much independence as possible.
As dementia progresses, daily tasks become more challenging and supervision needs increase. Our care plans are adjusted to provide greater hands-on assistance, more structured routines, closer safety monitoring, and increased social and cognitive engagement to support ongoing wellbeing.
In the advanced stages, individuals require comprehensive personal care, constant reassurance, and skilled management of complex symptoms. Our carers provide compassionate, full-assistance care — including personal care, feeding support, and overnight or live-in arrangements — always prioritising comfort, dignity, and quality of life.
We understand that reaching out about dementia care is a significant and emotional step. Our team handles every enquiry with sensitivity, care, and complete understanding.
We arrange a home visit from an experienced dementia care coordinator at a time convenient for you. We take time to understand the person's history, personality, preferences, and daily routines, as well as listening carefully to the family's concerns and priorities.
A comprehensive, fully tailored care plan is developed in close collaboration with the service user, their family, and any relevant health professionals — including the GP, memory clinic, or community nurse. The plan is reviewed regularly and updated as needs change.
We carefully select a small, consistent team of dementia-trained carers well-suited to the individual's personality, cultural background, and care needs. Where possible, we arrange a gentle introductory meeting before care begins.
Specialist care begins at the agreed frequency and times. Our care management team monitors quality closely, maintains regular contact with families, and remains available at all times to discuss any changes or concerns.
We know that caring for a loved one with dementia is one of the most challenging and emotionally demanding experiences a family can face. Direct2U is here to support families too.
We keep families informed and involved at every stage. Our care coordinators provide regular written and verbal updates so you always know how your loved one is doing.
Whether you need a few hours away or a longer break, we provide seamless respite cover so the person with dementia continues to receive familiar care from a known carer.
As dementia progresses, care needs change. We provide honest, compassionate guidance on what to expect and how to adapt the care plan — drawing on our experience with many families.
We can signpost families to local and national dementia support organisations, carer support groups, Admiral Nurses, and memory clinics for additional guidance and emotional support.
Dementia care at home may be funded in several ways. Our team can help you understand which options apply to your situation.
Following a needs and financial assessment by a social worker, your local council may fund all or part of a dementia care package. Direct2U works with Local Authority commissioners across North London to deliver funded care packages.
Learn more about fundingPeople with dementia whose primary care needs are health-related may qualify for fully funded NHS CHC care. This is a significant entitlement worth pursuing — our team can help you understand the CHC process and support your application.
Learn more about fundingSelf-funding families and those managing direct payments are welcome to arrange dementia care directly. We provide fully transparent pricing with no hidden charges and packages that can be scaled as needs develop.
Learn more about fundingWatching Dad decline with Alzheimer's was devastating. We were not ready for a care home, and neither was he. Direct2U sent the same two carers every single day — and the difference that consistency made was remarkable. Dad knew their names, he calmed when they arrived, and for the first time in months, he seemed genuinely settled. The whole family owes Direct2U an immeasurable debt of gratitude.— David A., son of a Direct2U dementia care client, Enfield
